The first thing people notice when they see a new car is its design. It is usually standard and does not stand out with many original solutions. However, sometimes the design can be so original that a person will want to spit long before he sees the interior and evaluates the characteristics of such a vehicle. Most often, this happens due to designers' desire to create a unique car that will stand out on the road. They work so hard at it that they don't notice how the vehicle turns into a monster on wheels, becoming a black stain on the automaker's reputation. You've probably already seen these cars in magazines or on the roads of your city, but let's look at them together again. Who knows, maybe now they won’t seem so ugly to you?

Fiat Multipla

If the Italians served their pizza as ugly as they decorated some cars, no one would eat it. The appearance of specific transport models (not just cars) caused bewilderment among specialists and ordinary drivers. At the same time, no one could find any logical explanations for the reasons for making strange design decisions. The Fiat Multipla can easily be called the prominent disgrace among all cars in Italy. It was produced for 12 years but never became a favorite among residents. Moreover, it was widely ridiculed for its disproportionate shape, boxy silhouette, and bug-eyed appearance (due to having two pairs of headlights of different sizes). Some of the improvements that Fiat carried out with its now “legendary” Multipla did not help improve the situation.

Aston Martin Lagonda

Until now, many people wonder how the British, considered the standard of style and fashionable design, could create such a freak as the Aston Martin Lagonda. Initially, this model was supposed to become a traditional English supercar intended for buyers from the VIP category. However, strange design decisions turned it into one of the main losers of the British automotive industry. The first thing that catches your eye is the square shape, which is not associated with a luxury and status car. Also inconsistent with British style is the vehicle's front end, which many call overly narrowed. We can only guess why Aston Martin designers decided to make it this way. Today, this car can be found among collectors looking for unusual vehicles and can also be purchased at salvage yards in Wichita and other major US cities.

Chrysler PT Cruiser

If you want to laugh as loud as you do while watching your favorite comedy show, then look at the Chrysler PT Cruiser. Just be careful; otherwise, you may not notice how you burst with laughter. After you manage to take control of your emotions, you can examine the car in more detail. It was created in a retro style, and according to the designers’ plans, it was supposed to incorporate all the best that the models of the early 20th century had. Although we could not achieve this, we still received a unique vehicle, the analogs of which are difficult to find today. Experts call the Chrysler PT Cruiser a disproportionate car, which has an excessively high roof and is also distinguished by a convex shape. Ordinary drivers often compare it to a hearse.

Nissan Cube

Japanese automakers love to surprise the world with innovative technical and design solutions. More often than not, they become a real discovery, which is highly appreciated worldwide. However, even such responsible people as the Japanese sometimes have a glitch in the matrix and begin producing strange things. One of them is the Nissan Cube. This car was born in 1998. It immediately began to stand out from the company's other models thanks to its square shape. Because of this, the vehicle looks awkward and certainly does not inspire admiration among everyone who sees it. Motorists immediately nicknamed it “a toaster on wheels”, the sight of which will make even the gloomiest person smile. At the same time, this car is quite reliable, safe and comfortable.

Dodge Nitro

In the USA, they love everything non-standard. However, something similar to the Dodge Nitro appears when things get out of hand. At the sight of it, some laugh loudly, others clutch their heads in despair, and others come up with another funny nickname for this vehicle. Initially, this compact SUV was supposed to compete with similar models from other manufacturers. However, its unfortunate design made all the advantages invisible and blocked the path to the top of various ratings. The main disadvantage of the Dodge Nitro's appearance was its square shape. Because of it, this car looks on the road like an alien that lost its way and accidentally landed on our planet. It is also impossible not to notice the presence of a certain angularity of shape, which only inexperienced designers could allow.

Ford Scorpio

A business-class car can be called such if it provides a high level of comfort and an attractive appearance. If Ford Scorpio has no problems with the first, then with the second, there are many. The model, which appeared in 1985 and was produced over the next 13 years, stood out for its non-standard proportions. It was also ridiculed because of its enlarged radiator grille, which had a bizarre convex shape. Thanks to this appearance, some motorists called the Ford Scorpio a “German loaf”, referring to the car's origin (Ford assembled the Scorpio model at its plant in the German city of Cologne). There were other exciting associations, but it is not customary to talk about them out loud.

MINI Coupe

It’s unlikely that anyone could imagine a vehicle like the MINI could be turned into an ugly copy of a traditional British car. However, in 2011, the developers succeeded. The new model, called the MINI Coupe, immediately confused fans of the legendary brand. Unlike the beloved Cooper, this car did not transition smoothly between the roof and the rest. This made him look disproportionate and gave him a very awkward appearance. Everything wouldn’t be so wrong if introducing new design solutions ended there. However, the developers complemented the car's appearance with an enlarged rear end, which contrasted against the background of the compact body. This made the MINI Coupe an even uglier vehicle, for which manufacturers are forced to blush with shame even many years later.

Pontiac Aztek

General Motors has been creating top-end cars for many years, but it made a grave mistake at the end of the last century. This happened when the Pontiac Aztek was introduced to the public. This small SUV has become the epitome of what a modern car should not look like. In it, the designers put together all possible errors, from the disproportionate shape to the asymmetry of some external design elements. The result is a car ideal for filming science fiction films but not for everyday driving on city roads. At the same time, in everything else (reliability, safety, comfort, etc.) Pontiac Aztek can be called a pretty good transport.

Subaru Tribeca

If you want to see a smile from drivers driving in the oncoming lane, don’t hesitate to choose the Subaru Tribeca. This SUV initially seems classic and similar to other company models. However, look at the front of it, and you'll immediately start laughing. The Tribeca's ugliness was contributed to by the appearance of a small trapezoidal grille at the front. Its presence gave the car a funny and not very attractive look. In addition, the non-standard design of the front end provoked the emergence of many associations, due to which the popularity of the Subaru Tribeca sharply dropped to a minimum. The designers made the rear window no less strange. It made the car's appearance even more ugly and significantly worsened rear visibility.

Rolls Royce Cullinan

You probably wouldn't expect to see a Rolls Royce model on the list of the ugliest cars in the world. However, after many years of adhering to the brand's design traditions, the famous automaker suddenly wanted to diversify its lineup. Thanks to this, the Cullinan appeared in 2018. As it befits all Rolls Royce vehicles, this SUV has been richly designed for maximum driver comfort. However, its appearance caused much controversy and became the basis for ridicule of the legendary automaker. The main drawback was the lack of smooth transitions from one body part to another. Because of this, the Cullinan looked more like a military vehicle than a premium civilian model.

The design of a car is an essential component of its popularity. In some cases, it makes it possible for a particular model to enter the list of the most attractive vehicles. In others, it makes it a noticeable part of the history of ugly cars. If your car belongs to the second category, don’t worry too much about it. Ultimately, it serves its purpose and allows you to stand out from the crowd. In any case, you can always point out to the critics their lack of taste and inability to create something like this.
