I hate that whenever I say, "I'm hold religious beliefs" that I have to add "but I'm not like those crazy people." But here goes: I attended Catholic high school. My mom goes to church every Sunday. You can even find me inside one from time to time. However, I rarely, if ever, talk about it (except for now). I would never try to get somebody to believe what I do. Half the time, I don't know what to believe in myself.

In the Catholic faith, we have saints for everything: travelers, artists and firefighters. I never paid attention to them, except for Saint Patrick's Day, which rules. Then one of my priest buddies gave me a medal of Saint Jude, the patron saint of lost causes, hospitals and the impossible. He thought it was funny, and said some smartassed remark like, "Saint Jude, patron saint of the impossible, please find KC a job…"

About two years ago, I suffered a pretty bad accident – I wasn't supposed to walk or breath ever again, which pretty much sucked for me. When you're wondering if you've taken your last breath, you start looking all over the place for help.

So when I was in worse-than-critical condition, I prayed, "Saint Jude. Patron saint of the impossible. Can you please help me not to die? And if so, could I please walk again? And if so, could I please have superpowers?"

I don't know if it was because of Saint Jude, but here I am, nearly two years later, breathing and walking. I might be in better shape physically after all of that. Maybe even mentally. After doing some reading, all you're supposed to do to repay Saint Jude is write a thank you note in a newspaper. I figured since more people read this blog than the local paper – and since I don't have the money for an ad, here goes:

Thanks Saint Jude.

Sincerely,

kc

P.S. Now, how about those superpowers? I'd like a laser-beam arm.

P.S.S. Seriously thank you. I really appreciate being able to walk and breathe.
