Dog Allergy: She has a dog and he is allergic to dogs.

Long Distance: They met online but she lives in New York and he lives in Los Angeles. (Note: opening credits must include shots of skylines.)

Dog Allergy 2: She has a dog and he is allergic to dogs and when he suggests they euthanize it she’s like, “…Or maybe we could just find her a new home?” And he laughs it off like, “Oh that’s a much better idea” and even does the thing where he points a finger gun at his own head and pulls the trigger. But then she lays awake in bed thinking is this guy a fucking psycho or something?

Miscommunication: He really likes her and says to his friend at a party: “I really like her.” But unbeknownst to him, she is listening from across the room and for some reason hears: “I really dislike her,” and the rest of the story leverages that miscommunication to great dramatic effect.

Dog Allergy 3: She has a dog and he is allergic to dogs so to save their relationship he shaves it but does it all wrong and goes into anaphylactic shock and ends up in a coma. He eventually wakes up but suffers pretty serious brain damage and memory loss, so she has to help him unlock his memories to rekindle their love, which is hard since she just got offered her dream job across the country so there’s a long-distance component too.

AI: Maybe one of those stories where they fall in love but she’s really a robot? (Note: Include smart subtexts about society.)

Dog Allergy 4: She has a dog and he’s allergic to dogs so he kidnaps the dog and takes it to a mountain retreat because he heard you can build up a tolerance to them like with exposure therapy. But it takes a year to build the tolerance and when he returns and knocks on her door she’s moved on with a new boyfriend and—get this—a new dog (!) and she can’t take the dog back because her lease only allows one dog and so the guy and the dog return to the mountain, this time as best friends plotting how to win her back in light of the changed circumstances. (Note: At some point the dog should demonstrate extreme loyalty by protecting him from a bear or wolf—both of which he is allergic to).

Dating Other People: They meet but the timing is all wrong because they are both dating two other characters who are horrible dumb fucks for whom we feel no sympathy and whose story and feelings and emotional well-being we don’t give a shit about. (Note: Could include dog allergy.)

Dog Allergy 5: This time she has a dog and also works in this really chaotic but rewarding job as a dog walker. So dogs are basically her whole life. But guess what? Not only is the guy allergic to dogs, but he’s also a billionaire entrepreneur whose mission is to “make the world safe for dog-allergics” by eradicating them from the planet, which of course would destroy not only her dog but also her livelihood and so at first she really, hates him. (Note: Working title, “In the Doghouse”.)

Incapable of Love: She can’t get over the death of her husband, whose pickup truck careened off a bridge. Unfortunately, also with her husband during the accident was the beloved family dog, whose body was found mostly intact and now stands taxidermized and bolted to the floor in the entryway of her home, which makes it virtually impossible for her new boyfriend (who is allergic even to dead dogs) to enter and teach her how to love again.

Dog Allergy 6: Okay, so she’s still a dog walker and he still wants to eradicate all the dogs. But in this version, the deadly virus he creates to do so accidentally kills almost all of humanity instead. The few remaining humans disperse in rocket ships to the far reaches of the galaxy and our protagonists need to find a way to make it work while mourning the loss of their home planet and everyone they’ve ever known and loved, which is hard since they’ve been evacuated to different planets separated by millions of light years, so there’s a long-distance component to this one too.
