People waving an American flag at night following the death of Osama bin LadenOsama Bin Laden
And his wife
Had children
Like many of us, I suppose.

Osama Bin Laden
Did his research
And knew a lot
That the U.S. needed to know.

It's hard to run
Background checks on terrorists
Because they see them coming.
And if you cannot beat them
You join them
Until it becomes time to sink
Or swim
(And they ain't got no SCUBA gear).

The New York Stock Exchange
Reacts
Overreacts
Corrects
And shrugs.
The time Osama Bin Laden
Meant War
Came and stayed
And the New York Stock Exchange
Figured that out
In a day.

Trillions of dollars have been spent.
Investments must be protected
Whether they be bullion
Prisoners
War mongers
Or regimes.
And anyway
The banker got his
Plush carpet and pretty views
And all he really wants
Is more.

And in Europe they try to help
Everybody
And everybody
Gets hurt
Because no good deed goes unpunished
And gold won't grow
In dirt.

And in the United States
And Canada
They got Blackwater Fever
Because the game has rules
That no one follows
And it makes them mad.

And the Seals
Are on Fire.
Their Team
Gets Three
Bravos.
But they don't have time to bow.
Off they go again
Because hard work
Never
Ends.

And in Iran
They work on
Being all they can
In a nuclear way
So they can say
More
And mean it.

And the President
Of the District of Columbia
(And the territories
Above and Around)
Looks into the future
And feels down.

Winning isn't always fun
When it hurts you.

And the Intelligence Agencies
And Bureaucratic Bureaus
Investigate the deaths of patience
And the patients
Known as John and Jane
While everyone complains
And no one listens.

And theories
Are called conspiracies
And Linda's Book
Is called a comic strip
But she stands up
Screams "look"
And finds a pyramid.

But it's sacrilege
To say the world will live
And it's sacrilege
To preach apocalypse
So we cook food
And we drink wine
And the people
Who make up planet Earth
Get by
Or die
Sometimes in prison.

Experimental aircraft
Can take us to the moon
And experimental data
Can determine what to do
Once we get there.

But experience
Is its own teacher
And its own student
And sometimes
It has to take and teach
Its first class.
So what to do?

And everybody
From San Francisco
To South Miami
To New York City
And Old New Orleans
And up to Chicago
And the Bay of Bengal
And the Arabian Sea
And Italy
And even Missouri
Wants more to be better
But there's only so many
Ocean views,
There's only so many
Private schools
So everybody
Can't have everything.

And the general public
Finds work in sectors
Be they public or private
While the private
Follows orders
And that's enough
For his job is rough
But at least it pays.

And the gates open
For the General
Who has to wonder
Every day
Just who exactly
He is fighting.

And the Dow Jones Industrial
Falls to the future
And the future
Of the country
That says goodbye
And good riddance
To Osama Bin Laden
Who had his wife
And his children
Much like most of us, I suppose.

But it's okay man,
I got the remote
And a new rain coat.
And the tornado
And the lightning
They're just destructive
But they ain't fighting.

And the internet news man says
"Sometimes the result
Is not a result
Of the requests"
But we ain't listening
To his contrarian
Point of view
‘Cause we got stuff to do.

And in St. Louis the river rises
And in New Orleans the harsh wind blows
And in California the firm earth shakes
And in Pakistan the ground explodes.

But it's all good man
I made fried chicken
And I bought this new beer,
They're in the kitchen,
Thanks for coming here.

And anyway I love you
And that's something too.
