poland is deffinately number 2 in drinking, Poland makes some of the best vodka in the world and they made new inventions for wine and beer, go to a polish party and even the kids will be walking a little bit off balance clarifying kids i mean like 15 and up not like 8 year olds

Holland is definetely supposed to be in there, we are allowed to drink beer at age 16 and hard liquor at 18.
and we use our head start to our advantage as best as possibly, meaning we have a lot of practice ;)

canada has one the only true drinking comps the world has hosted two years in a row. but i have to say we may not rank top of the list because of so many immigrents who simply have better hobbies then drinking

i think youll find that ireland is no1 on acholol consumption per capitia,,aswell as the biggest binge drinkers in the world as of the last study in 2006. Up the irish. i agree with the top 3 but the polish and czechs should be in there somewhere

Pretty sure the aussies drink a hell lot more than most of that list, infact i can remember reading thiws back in '07 and then promptly challenging every european i met to drink until we dropped. as a consequence i have only just remembered to write my reply and say aussies are on par with our loverly irish competitors

this prompted me to look up the official stats from the who and as i thought the usa should be no where near the top 10. sorry guys a few wild frat parties just doesn't cut it. on the other hand i was quite disappointed with Australia's efforts, especially being beaten by those fucking kiwis.

I'm from south africa. It's funny that this list has only got first world countries on it. If you opened you eyes you would find that your not the only ones who drink. I'm 19 years old and drink every day. And not just a few beers. Hard liquor. Here in south Africa you can get alcohol from the age of fourteen and iv been drinking ever since. It's all fun and games making lists. Just don't brush off south Africa just yet

Unfortunately, you appear to have forgotten Canada, a nation of hockey, beavers, and beer.

My heritage (as most of us Americans are mutts) is:
1) 75 % Russian/Eastern German
2) 25 % Irish/Native American

Wthout a doubt the lines above equal...Intoxication. Though I visit POC for the originality & hilarity, a big factor is to gauge personal un-sober antics to others

I dont know if it is a good thing or a bad thing that knowone has mentioned Scotlands Place on this list.

And i do agree that the Americans should never be able to touch these ranking, i have several American friends and they suck at drinking, they r light wieghts, violent and stupid when drunk then cant drink for days.

And yes Scotland does have a small population, but the only line of defence is the Scotland versus Italy match last year where Scotland (As a whole) Drank 10 million Pints or so, and several hundred thousand bottles of spirits. in a period or 6 hours. Also when a Football team was playing in Manchester 200,000 supporters drank the city dry, this is the same for the Tartan Army (International traveling fans) where 50,000 fans drank Paris dry.

I am shocked that u haven't pointed it out in that list.
Poland and Russia - these 2 countries should be on top.
I dont think so that anyone of the countries from the list (except Russia) could drink as much as we do, I have been drinkin with English, French, Germans and they are really amateurs, they go down in like 2h (wtf?) They are no partners in drinkin 1l per head. Trust me.

I can see these countries are on the top of the list, I can only guess they are also on the top of the best solutions against drinking, it would be interesting to have access to such statistics too.

i agree with most of what you are saying however i must speak up for the boozy brits who mostly start binge drinking at the age of 15, even though the legal age is 18, and cause the country millions due to the binge drinking habits of us all.

the nation live for the weekend and any excuse to get wankered is taken advantage of and as a brit sees the weekend as everyday of the week that in all honesty all we do is drink. i dont see why the fuck the US is even in the the top 10 the beer tastes like bottle piss and has a stupidly low alcohol percentage.

i visited the states and took a small tour of the states and by the time i was 1/2 cut most of the americans i met were plastered and giggling like 14 year old girls having their first glass of wine. and also none of them could get their head around the british term 'tactical chunder' meaning that if you do get a bit too drunk too early in the evening then you go and force yourself to chuck up so that you can carry on drinking...not quit and go home like the americans.

im not saying brits are the elite of drinking just but merely that the US of fucking A deserves no place on that ranking. they have the drinking age alllll wrong and very few actually understand the fundimental aspects of drinking as a cultural experiance.

romanians are the best drinkers.In Romania is legal to drink at any age, but not in streets.After every meal,75% of romanians drink a glass or even a bottle of wine,beer,wisky or "palinca"(which is the strongest of all because it have 95 degrees Celsius).
BTW, "palinca" is a traditional drink which is dating from the Dacians era,so it's not obtained chimically.

The ability to hold large amounts of alcohol is simply from building tolerance, which is an early warning sign of alcoholism.

Don't forget the Czech Republic, whose citizens consume more alcohol per capita than any other country. And in my travels there, you couldn't walk past a bar and not see ten people, at 10am.

and nick, i didn't mention the czech peeps (i saw that ranking of alcohol per capita) is simply because i don't know any czechs.

Russia should top that list hands down. They don't drink to celebrate occasions like the Irish do (start of a work day, end of a work day, taking a shower, etc). They just drink. That's why ethanol E-85 still contains 15% gasoline; because otherwise, Russians and their descendants (myself included) would water it down with some vodka and serve it with pancakes. Now, they may not have the highest per-capita consumption, but those who do consume cannot be touched. And you're arguing about Canadians???

haha i love the list, i'm german and it's totally true. but i think it's only with greeks where you can see your 7 year old cousin get drunk right along with her grandpa...
