An Ode to Juli's Facebook picture
It's charming when a little girl sticks her
flower
In a tank
The combination of budding petals and
hard steel
brings fond memories of Nabokov
Such is the nature of contrast
I cannot help but recall this visual cliche
when I see the subtle inter-
play
between low cut blouse
and wire-rimmed glasses
that make Juli the very picture of confusion.
Am I supposed to eye the cleavage and think
Here is a girl trying to get my attention?
Or heed the glasses
And see the averted gaze?
Do I dare notice? Do I dare LOOK?
Or can the simple frames magnify my
lasciviousness?
Such is the nature of contrast
Such is the nature of photograhpy
Such is the nature of women.
It's charming when a little girl sticks her
flower
In a tank
