Hometown:

Charlotte, NC

At a Glance:

Stand-Up Comedian. Writer. Person.

Joe Zimmerman is one of the slowest young rising stars in comedy today. Critics have called Joe’s rise to fame both "undetectable," and "sloth-like." Joe is slow to point out that sloths just move deliberately so as to preserve energy, because their diets consist primarily of tree bark.

Bio:

Not only does Joe rise slowly to fame, he also wakes up slowly (often hitting the snooze button), brushes his teeth slowly (making sure to floss), and eats food slowly (for proper digestion). While other entertainers leave Joe in the dust of their rocket ships to success, Joe just plods along like the tortoise in that wonderful fable, where against all odds, the tortoise wins. What a great story, clearly one of Aesop’s best.

Despite Joe’s sluggish behavior, Joe was recently named Charlotte’s Comedian of the Year by Creative Loafing Magazine. Subsequently, Charlotte was named America’s number one city for black families to live in by bet.com, therefore making Joe America’s number one comedian for black families. In 2007, Joe made it to the finals of the Carnival Challenge at the Pittsburgh Improv, and in 2008 he was invited to the Asheville Comedy Festival. Unfortunately, most of Joe’s greatest accomplishments, trophies, certificates, and ribbons, occurred during a four year stint which ended in 1994, when he graduated from Mountainview Elementary. Joe is currently "living the dream" of road comedy, and residing in Asheville, NC, where he performs regularly at the Diana Wortham Theatre.
