Cities I’ve Visited, Where I've Been (by TripAdvisor) << Popular Facebook Application Reviews

Review:
These two applications by TripAdvisor represent two basic forms of the map
category applications: one highlights cities you've visited across the globe, and the other designates the countries you've been to.
Overall this is a neat idea, and it definitely gives people a chance to showcase where they've been, where they've lived, and moreover where they
want to go. You can definitely take a little away from finding out whether a person has been to a country like asshole Uzbekistan, or somewhere more traditional in Europe or
South America.
My main criticism of this application is that it doesn't go nearly in depth enough. For starters, these two apps should combine so people can
showcase the cities IN the countries they've been too. Russia is a huge goddamn country, and the map would read the same for a person who was born and raised there as it would
for someone who had a thirty minute layover in Stalingrad.
Furthermore, there should be some way to put all of these trips in context. You should be able to designate where you were born, and the places
you've lived along a relative timeline, evidenced in a MapQuest-like zig-zagging line throughout the country or world. Then you could throw in the trips you've taken in the same
manner, and the countries and cities you hit up along the way in each respective journey. You could maybe even take it as far as to write about your experiences living or
traveling in these locations within the application. Perhaps this could even foster a dialogue between students as to how it concerns their Spring Break plans, future career
moves, and graduate school options, as opposed to being just another quasi-useless application that's interesting for all of about five seconds.
Grade: D
An application with boundless possibilities but few realized uses. More akin to an adult coloring book than a reflection of your travels and
experiences in the world abroad.
