Heather, you're right about young America generally not caring about the vote, but the opportunity is there. It's not a matter of the decision makers thinking that the votes won't be a problem, but rather the decision makers acknowledging that an 18-year-old can make an informed, reasonable decision.

As far as the DUI/alcohol-related crashes are concerned, those who would be drinking if the legal age were 18 are still drinking, just illegally. Studies have shown that very few people abstain from alcohol until they're 21, and then start drinking. We'd have the same number of drinkers, we'd just have less people doing it clandestinely, driving from party to party on any given weekend trying to evade the cops.
