I Don’t Want to be Smart Any More
In a Newsweek interview, the editor in chief of OK! Magazine called the (Britney) Spears family “smart.”
I’m sorry, but no.
I really don’t care about celebrities, but please don’t call stupid, talentless people smart. Granted, if you believe OK!, you’re probably stupid. But seriously, smart people should be fucking insulted. That's like me calling Carlos Mencia the funniest and most original comedian of all time.
People sacrifice to be smart. The kids in my middle school beat the shit out of me because I was “smart.” I have an advanced degree, work a big boy job and didn’t get knocked up when I was 16 years old. I still don’t consider myself that smart. I don’t understand the stock market, banks or real estate -- which puts a damper on working at a real estate magazine.
If Britney, whatever her sister’s name is and the rest of the Spears are smart, I don’t want to be smart any more. I feel like this word will become an insult. I feel “smart” is going to become the new “gay” or “retard.”
“Ha ha. Freeman is smart. Loser.”
“Look at the books that guy is carrying around. Fucking smart people.”
“Do you think people choose to be smart, or are born smart?”

The fact that you care about celebrity-related issues is enough proof, if you ask my opinion ... which you do, indirectly.
It's fun that you are taking advantage of the possibilities of the new site, but where is your next full-length article?
BTW, doesn't the whole 2.0 title mean that you should be "going global"? As far as I can see, it's pretty geographically limited ...
And try to come up with a reply that does not involve "Euro trash" ... whatever it means.
Later,
I hate most people's fascination with losers who happen to be rich. Where would the Spears family be without money? The same redneck, hillbilly trash they are now, except we wouldn't ever here of them. There are thousands of families just like theirs out there.
I wish magazines like OK! would just disappear, but people keep buying the damn things...look at thedirty.com, it was started by a jackass loser with poor english skills. He was opportunistic, not smart.
Christ that was jumble of words that I'm not sure even made sense.
Anon (not ver),
I read the Newsweek story about if Britney's sister has glamorized teen pregnancy. Yes, if her sister wasn't famous, rich, white and pretty nobody would give a shit. The fact that every time I log into my e-mail this story is thrown in my face has driven me cr-cr-crazy! I don't look for it, but celebrity news is everywhere in NYC, so it's really impossible for me to avoid, which sucks. The day tabloids die will be a joyous day.
My column formerly known as "Thank Me Later" comes out every Monday. My next full-length article? A la, "Things to do before you graduate?" I don't know. You can check out my archives of columns, but for some reason I don't do articles.
PIC going global? Harass Court Sullivan. He's the boss. I don't do any hiring, firing but I do try to recruit. E-mail the shit out of him my anonymous friend from across the pond.
TDHurst,
Exactly, but splashing Whatsherface Spears on the cover of these magazines and then calling her "smart" definitely doesn't sway little girls away from teenage pregnancy.
This reply is officially longer than the blog it's about.
Thanks for reading. You're all the best,

Dear sir,
As to avoid the mindless media, might I suggest factiva.com? It might not be perfect, but it is definitely a better start of the day ...
[I mean, if over breakfast you can convince yourself not having done those things the night before, you might as well dream about having a say in the actual current events]
I found some of your earlier 'publications' pretty decent, hence my inquiry. Not to fuck with your spontaneous process ... whatever that might entail.
Personally, I have picked up the proverbial pen once in a while, but I think I might not be a good fit for your "focus group" ... as I have left college over two years ago, work for a multinational that would not enjoy a lot of public scrutiny and I refrain from open misogeny as I need to get properly laid in the near future (I am not Nathan or [fill in name], so ...).
I am, however, a cigar-smoking, borderline binger, so I better get back to what I think I remember I know.
Thanks again,
P.S.: I do have some articles from my college years. If you feel like reading 'm, let me know where to be reached ...
Anon (NV),
I have no interest in business news at all, but thanks for the site.
I can't figure out if you liked my earlier 'publications' and not my new stuff, or you think my stuff has gotten better.
From my knowledge our readers are basically anybody that has been to college or likes humor. I haven't been an undergrad since 2002 and was worried I wasn't going to have a home at PIC, but I think I've done well for myself here.
The easiest way to reach me is probably Facebook. I don't check MySpace very often and never check my PIC e-mail. I'm happy to check out a story here and there, but might not have time for all of them.
Take it easy,
